| This is what you might call wearing
your influences on your sleeve and is a combination of a tune written to
emulate "The Teardrop Explodes" and a lyric inspired by "XTC".
Another very early idea which sprang from the drum beat. Subconsciously
I wanted to write "Reward" and before I knew it the song had
grown a horn section. I wrote the lyric separately to the tune of "Garden
Of Earthly Delights" by "XTC" although I think I managed
to give them there own resonance.
This is a song about freedom of speech and the way we all are brought up
to a specific way of thinking through our specific upbringing and experiences.
The right of free speech is fundamental if any democracy is to work, even
when faced with bigoted, racist, sexist, whatever ...ist views you may
come up against. It's only by hearing these extremes that you may become
aware of how wrong they are.
Oh if only I practiced what I preached.
