| The track that really set the tone
of what Newage would be. This was probably the first song to come out from
experimenting with the Roland mc-303 groovebox I'd acquired. This was me
learning how to programme a drum section upon which the rest of the instrumentation
was layered.
The song writing process was markedly different from that used previously
on the "Painted Pantomime" songs. Here I would press some buttons
and shape some chords on the groovebox, then sequence these together, lastly
applying any keyboard riffs or hooks. This dark menacing number is probably
the best of these songs and the darker tone inspired the more social form
of lyric I tried to apply to the album as a whole.
This City Life is a view on our urban, industrialized lifestyle and touches
on our obsession with material wealth, celebrity and the inevitable consequences
of this.
